STATE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Utah's preferred method of application for Non-Residents is electronic.
All non resident licenses, with the exception of any license type not offered in the applicant's home state, can now be applied for on-line and paid for with a major credit card. Failure to utilize this method will result in a $25 paper processing fee and a longer processing time for the applications.
Agency applicants – Designated Responsible Licensed Producers must hold an active license in Utah for the appropriate lines of authority before agency license will be approved.
Utah requires that an insurance agency licensed in the State of Utah must either include the word Insurance in its name or reference on all of its communications (i.e. Letterhead, business cards, signage, the manner in which the phone is answered) indicate that they are in fact in the business of soliciting insurance. This does not apply to adjuster or consultant organizations. See Utah Insurance Department Rule R590-154.

State fees will be collected by NIPR (on behalf of UT) when a transaction is declined according to UT business rules. Transaction fees and processing fees will also apply. Violation of the following rules will result in a decline response.

Applicant must not have an inactive Non Resident license in UT.
Individual applicants - Applicant must be 18 years old or older as determined from the applicant’s Date of Birth.
Business Entity applicants - Designated/Responsible Licensed Producers (#23) must have an active resident or non-resident license in UT.
If applying for the line of authority "Surplus Lines", then applicant must hold or apply for Property, and Casualty in UT.
Applicant with a NR UT license in “inactive” status may apply electronically if the license has been inactive for 2 years and 1 day – the exception is ‘Voluntarily Surrendered Status’
Applicant with a NR UT license in “Inactive” status may apply electronically if Status reason is:
- 64- Voluntarily Surrendered
